What I missed more than anything during the lockdown was travel. This was the first winter for many years that I hadn’t got away to Latin America to be with my wife’s family. The other hemisphere, where it’s hot.
Making this painting evoked my memories of being in a distant place, in the heat, and simple things that have been forbidden – sitting amongst crowds jostling by in a market café, the smells of hot cooked food, talk in another language buzzing around me, noise, laughter, people – life!
Market Café, San José oil on board on ply.
