The Painter’s House
The influence of Algernon Newton pervades all the pictures in this exhibition. I’ve always found his quiet contemplation, subtle observations, and the desire to find beauty in the everyday completely mesmerising. Algernon Newton paints scenes that seem to have a timeless life of their own on the canvas and it is this that I have tried to find in my own work.
The painting that gives this exhibition its title is a direct homage to Algernon Newton and is of an unknown place. The cat in the painting is real, the mysterious house may or may not be; it is there, in my head and it could just be that I haven’t walked past that house yet.
