This shows a moment in time in the kitchen as I prepare the evening meal. There is a gathering of ingredients, a knife, a tomato and a glass of wine are on the table. The scene is bathed in warm light as it is a summer evening. This print is part of a group of kitchen sink dramas or visual diaries I have been working on. I spend much of my time both cooking and drawing on the kitchen table, whilst observing what is going on around me.
Looking through old cookbooks, I noticed that recipe illustrations usually took the form of a drawing or print rather than photos. These books are visually rich, with renowned British artists such as John Minton, and Edward Bawden providing the prints and ink drawings. The imagery used in these old books fired my imagination, leading me to work on a group of relief prints.
