Snip Snip continues a series of prints based on my continually growing collection of aged scissors. As ‘tools of the trade’ they are utilitarian objects but ones of great practical beauty. They are meant to be handled and used, with balance and understated elegance. Ask an artisan or craftsperson how important their scissors are and see how cherished they can be! They become essential companions even if they are not always treated well.
This print features three pairs of scissors that contrast in scale and purpose. I chose these because I find them pleasing and practical and have become favourites: –
The Tailor’s shears – bronze and sharp, comfortable to the touch and serious in their business.
The Bonsai Scissors – aged and so pleasing in their form to look at and hold.
The Small stationery and paper scissors – a lovely plastic moulded form with metal blades.
