I have developed a passion for old books, with their faded and foxed yellowing pages and their damaged and loved, cloth covers. I work these into my ‘paintings’ with paper much as I would acrylic paint. I try and balance texture, depth and form and like the quiet areas in the work to allow your eye to walk around the painting. I feel the choice of frame is very important in this work, the mid-century teak tones add a softness to the piece. Clearwater is based on the top right hand panel of faded cloth, it was such a beautiful find. All these works are matte varnished and soft wax finished.
