Lines form the anatomy of my visual language. Blush is an automatic drawing made as an interpretation of the physical feelings of heat, blood rush and the static fizz of capillary swell. Drawing what is felt, but unseen and a focus on the body and the emotions it holds inside, has formed the basis of much recent work. Through working from imagination and in the moment, I strive to catch and release these often indecipherable physical holding spaces.
My practice is based on a visceral and connected relationship to materials, memory and place. Oils, inks, a cold slab of graphite, raw pigment, holographic glitter, linen, old bed sheets and paper which feels like skin are all equal players in my attempt to create a new reality from experiences of trauma and loss. The joy of making, colour choices and a dynamic working method are essential to bringing this about.
I studied with Turps banana art school 2020-2022 and am the recipient of an Arts Council grant. Shortlisted for the Derwent Art Prize 2024 and the Trinity Buoy Wharf drawing prize 2023, longlisted for the Contemporary British Painting prize 2023, Jackson’s art prize 2023 and 2021. Solo show with Zuleika gallery, Oxford April 2024.
