I’m a full-time carer for my Mum who has dementia so I’m always at home. I love to create my art on the kitchen table whilst having interesting conversations with her about the past. I don’t have lots of time to think about what I’m creating, so my ideas are spontaneous but seem to work.
This piece was inspired by mum’s love of vases and pieces of ceramics we have around the house. I love mixing different media together and have created a technique I really enjoy using in my work. I use a base of watercolour with an oil pastel overlay that seems to make my work come to life. Mum plays a huge part in what I create because she’s there with me every time I paint. Usually before I start to paint the conversation will be ‘what colour shall we use today mum?’ and the impulse to create a piece of art begins…
