Submissions are invited from artists resident in the UK for Town House Open, a selling exhibition of original work around interpretations of ‘the East End of London’ (price guide up to £3,500). The exhibition will run from late June to the beginning of September 2020 in the gallery at Town House and once sold, works will be replaced by works by other artists to enable inclusion of as many artists as possible during the exhibition. Commission on sales will be 20% of the sale price, plus vat on the commission figure. The final date for submission is Sunday 5th April 2020.
Paintings (figurative or abstract), must be executed in oil, acrylic or watercolour up to A1 size, do not need to be framed, but must be capable of being hung at the top using D rings. Sculpture must be easily portable by hand and free-standing. All work should have been created within the last 24 months, not previously exhibited and one submission only per artist. The theme should be conveyed by the work supported by the artist’s statement, which will also be considered as part of the selection process. An artist’s connection to the East End will not of itself be sufficient.
The selection process will be in two stages: – the first establishing the short list will be decided by 30th April from the submitted photographs, by three people in-house at Town House. These successful submissions will be notified shortly thereafter and those artists will need to bring or send the actual work to Town House at their own cost by 11th May. The second stage will be judged from the actual works by three external judges, plus Fiona Atkins owner of the gallery, with the decision being made by the end of May.
Work should be submitted using this form and must include the artist’s statement in English plus medium, dimensions and price (maximum 250 words), and one jpg of the work (maximum 5 MB). There is a link to more detailed terms and conditions on this page and artists will need to check the box confirming acceptance of these before submission.
