To say that I am self-taught would be to imply that I have learned something. That process is still ongoing.
The idea that I have taken away from the pandemic and its various lockdowns is healing. During lockdown it felt as if everything was falling apart and we were all stuck at home within our walls unable to do anything about it.
As I am mostly influenced in my art by the wabi-sabi of old walls and decaying ghost signs I started a series of canvases healing the things that were breaking. Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi I created walls on canvas and commenced by healing the cracks that have appeared in them. With the US elections taking place at the time Democracy seemed like a good place to start.
It may not seem like a positive to take from the lockdown experience, but it is to remind us that there is hope and there is healing.
