Although my drawings are most often of London, I have always enjoyed Life Drawing, or Artist’s Gym as it might be called. I was very dubious about joining a Zoom Drawing Class during Lockdown as, viewing a model on a small screen making a Selfie video, seemed to defeat the object. How wrong I was! Despite the odd technical glitch I found the company of fellow artists who shared their own drawings of a single view fascinating. The styles and approach so varied and our group included Artists and Models from all over, even as far away as the foothills of the Himalayas. Thursday evening classes became a highlight of my week and I was won over by its charm.
This watercolour with charcoal pencil was made in response to our Model’s luxuriating on her cushions and surrounded by fabrics which a pencil drawing alone couldn’t convey. It feels like a comfortable domestic scene made in lamplight.
