I moved out of London along the Thames Estuary to North Kent at the end of last year. To the west of where I live now it is built up all the way to the city, but to the east it is open marshland and woods.
This painting is of a wood pile I saw on farmland on a walk around the area during lockdown. My paintings are usually based on what I see around me, mostly found arrangements of objects. I still have the subjects I saw in the city: boxes in corner shops, furniture on the street, but now I also have different things to draw upon.
The change of location and unexpected time to explore has given me the chance to start a whole new body of work.
