Louise Burston: Forget-me-nots

Forget-me-nots symbolise love and respect. When you give someone these tiny flowers, it represents a promise that you will always remember them. It’s also believed that they have the power to protect humans against witches. Other common names include Bird’s eye, Robin’s eye, Mammy-flooer, Snake-grass and Love-me.

I enjoy the challenge of working on packaging. The shape of the packaging fuses with the subject and provides a tactile grid, enhanced by the braille pitted into the surface. The packaging became as important as the flowers, they react against each other, yet work together. There is an age old relationship between medicine and plants. The pharmaceutical industry plays a huge role in most lives, but we have forgotten how plants were used to heal. Nature also sustains and heals by its very presence.
