Flowers burst with colour out of a background of infinite darkness like instants of colour and clarity. Following in the footsteps of the well-established tradition of Dutch flower painting of the 16c/17c I have depicted an old master style painting of a vase of flowers on an archetypal glazed ceramic vase. The Dutch were engrossed by the beauty and exoticness of rare flowers and as well as collecting them they made elaborate still life paintings using flowers to represent the ephemeral nature of beauty, desire and the transience of our existence.
