As an ex long-term prisoner, turned artist I often use security objects in my work, be it keys, locks, gates, barbed wire, etc. Whilst attending The Art Car Boot Fair (in the yard on Buxton Street E1), this large ‘Chubb London’ padlock was keeping the doors of an outbuilding securely closed.
I have produced an Ink drawing of this padlock as part of a series called TIME: its form is created using tally marks, like that scratched into a cell wall to log each passing day. As well as reflecting upon my time spent in prison, this series pays homage to time itself and its [seemingly] underrated value in society today
