During this pandemic, international travel has become very difficult. The thought of going back to visit my hometown Penang has had to be put temporarily on hold. The feeling of missing home has inspired me to paint this piece. I have called it ‘Five Foot way’ to remind me of where I grew up. A roofed continuous walkway, called a five foot way, is commonly found in front of shops in Malaysia which may also be used for commercial activity. The appearance of the flamingo stood in the building makes the painting more surrealist as this is not a common bird in Malaysia. The strong pink and cool colours harmonise well in this artwork.
