Daily walks along the seafront in Hove, usually to watch the sun rise but sometimes set, were the most consoling and invigorating of experiences during lockdown. Recording the experience of sea, clouds, wind and the expanse of space over the water brought home the realisation that every day is different in the natural world, even if they may all seem very similar in our own.
This painting is from a series prompted by the habitual and daily exploration of the same space and location. Every day watching a family of crows taunting seagulls, every day seeing the same dogs running along the beach, every day being surprised by the dramatic and evanescent sky.
