Rather than being about a house this painting was inspired by a visit to one: the Reitveld Schröder House in Utrecht. Walking back along a canal into the centre of the city afterwards, the trees seemed to merge and move together, flickering in the spring sunshine and creating a wild abstract pattern in the water below. It seemed the perfect contrast to the serenity of my usual Regent’s Canal walks.
